Who doesn't love turkey gravy smothering your fresh cooked Turkey for the Holidays? Not only can you cover your turkey with this easy super low cost gravy, but top your mashed potatoes or even some stuffing with it as well.
The reason it is low cost is because you use the drippings from your Turkey to make the gravy. I have to be honest, it's the best way to enjoy gravy for the holiday in my family's opinion. The flavor by far is better than buying packs or the pouches that sometimes comes with the Turkey.
Is it really easy to make?
Yes! All you're doing is taking drippings from a cooked turkey, separating the oil from broth, making a roux, and then bring your gravy together! Using the brother that's come directly from the turkey is where all the good flavors come from.
For some of you it can be salty depending upon what seasonings you used on your Turkey or how much salt when into Turkey as your seasoning. See below the recipe for further tips.
What to pair Turkey Gravy with:
Now let's get to the recipe and all the ingredients needed as well as some cooking items and utensils for this dish.
Helpful Items for Turkey Gravy
- Flint and Flame Knives - I use these daily and have had them for over 2 years. I've yet to sharpen them! Definitely great quality knives. Code CHEFTIM40 to get 40% this knife or their entire website
- Measuring Cups - Having multiple size measuring cups comes in handy for recipes just like this one.
- Medium Pot - Hexclad pots and pans are my go-to! I've used a ton of different brands but these have truly been a non stick! You won't be disappointed.
- Bacon Up - If you're looking for bacon grease without having to cook bacon, Bacon Up is a great alternative and you don't have to hassle with the bacon cooking mess!
- Meat Injector - You'll need a thin injector to properly separate the oil from broth in order to make your roux. This syringe will do the trick!
Ingredients you'll need for Turkey Gravy
- 2 Cups Turkey Broth
- 2 ½ tablespoon Grease (Oil from Broth)
- 2 ½ tablespoon All Purpose Flour
Instructions for making Turkey Gravy

Step 1 : Pour broth into a measuring cup and let it sit for a few minutes until you see the oil settle on top of the broth.

Step 2 : Get a syringe and very gently pull the oil off the top. You must do this very slowly and ensure your syringe is not submerged much below the oil otherwise it will start pulling broth because of the suction of the syringe.

Step 3 : Next heat your pot to medium heat for a minutes then add in your oil and flour stirring until the roux starts to turn golden brown and become like tooth paste.

Step 4 : Slowly drizzle in ⅓ cup of your broth into the roux and give it a couple minutes of stirring and it will thicken up as seen in the video. Then slowly drizzle in the rest of the broth and serve with your turkey.

Too Salty?
Here's how to fix that!
- First taste your broth with a teaspoon to see if its super salty.
- Then add ½ cup water to your both and then taste for salinity.
- If it's just right, then go through the same steps as above changing your roux to this mixture: 3 tablespoon oil & 3 tablespoon flour.
- What is I don't have enough oil? 99% of the time you will have enough oil but, in any case, you don't use bacon grease.
- If you have more broth and want to make a bigger batch, then just increase in increments of ½'s to adjust your roux.
