This is a recipe with seasonings that I experimented with and it turned a classic Pork Roast into a STAR! With Beef prices extremely high right now, more homecooks are experimenting with the much more affordable Pork cuts. Here you'll find a tasty way to make it a centerpiece for your holiday meal!
What is a pork roast and what cut of meat do you use to make it?
I used a boneless pork butt for this recipe. If you cannot find a boneless pork butt at your local grocery store, simply buy the bone-in and cut the bone away. It's not as hard as you think either! It comes down to carving out the bone by cutting away all the tissue from the bone. It's an easy but slow process but yields a great cut of meat and is actually cheaper than buying boneless pork butt. You can find an easy to follow video on this cutting process on my McRib Slider Video.
How do you make an easy pork roast?

It can be so simple! No need to overthink it. With a well marinated cut of pork, you simply place it in the oven or on a smoker and let it roll! The key here is all in the temperature. At the right temperature, you can take a tough cut of meat and make it beautiful!
Pork has become increasingly a bigger part of my diet, and I have really enjoyed learning to cook lots of different cuts of pork and all the different way you can cook them.
Why not make Pork the Centerpiece on your table this holiday season? It's just that easy to do and I am taking a Boneless Pork Butt that I got at my local grocery which weight almost 5 pounds.
Now let's get to the recipe and all the ingredients needed as well as some cooking items and utensils for this dish.
Helpful Items for a perfect Pork Roast in the Oven
- Flint and Flame Knives - I use these daily and have had them for over 2 years. I've yet to sharpen them! Definitely great quality knives. Code CHEFTIM40 to get 40% this knife or their entire website.
- Bench Scraper - Anytime I cook, this is on the counter. It makes for an easy clean up and to make sure no ingredients are left behind.
- Mixing Bowls - Priority Chef mixing bowls have a non-slip bottom that I LOVE! Less mess is always best, right?
- Measuring Cups - Having a set of different sizes is lifesaving in the kitchen! This Anchor brand is my go to.
- Salt - When I'm using salt as a topper for finishing dishes, I like to use a quality salt.

Instructions for Cooking a Juicy Pork Roast
Make Seasoning and Paste
Step 1 : First thing is to gather all your ingredients and set them on the counter to make it easy to do the food prep.
Step 2 : Chop thyme leaves if using fresh thyme. In a medium bowl, make your seasoning by combining salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika and thyme. Place to the side.

Step 3 : In a small bowl, mix together the Ssamjang and Soy Sauce to make a paste.
Prep Roast
Step 4 : Using a sharp knife, poke holes in 5 different places around your pork roast. Place a clove of garlic in each hole. Holes are about 2 inches deep.

Pro Tip : To not lose track of holes, poke and fill with garlic one hole at a time.

Step 5 : Coat all sides of the pork roast with the soy sauce paste, then coat all sides with the seasoning mixture. Cover it and refrigerate overnight or for at least 12 hours.
Cooking Pork Roast
Step 6 : Pre-heat your oven to 350°F. Remove Pork Butt from refrigerator and place on a roasting pan. Cook uncovered for about 4 hours. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 175°F.
Step 7 : Last step is very important. Let it rest for a full 15 minutes before slicing into this cut of meat. This will keep it tender and juicy!
