Kimchi fried rice is as simple as it is tasty make. Kimchi brings classic Korean flavors right to your home kitchen in a dish that most of us already know and love. Most of these ingredients are likely to already be in your home. It's a dish much loved by me and I know people will be loving this combo, hopefully accepting it as a staple of their family meals.

What can you add to it?
For this fried rice recipe, I used a Flatiron steak. This is a very simple version, but you can dress it up with a bit of shrimp, chicken, pork, ham, any of your favorite seafoods or even spam. What I learned is Koreans like to put a fried egg on top, but my family prefers this simple version that I'm showing you here. When my kids lived at home they loved when we made fried rice no matter what version honestly. However, my half Asian daughter loves this version the most.
As you can see in this video, you don't need to prepare much in advance for Kimchi Fried Rice, or bokkeumbap. The most important thing to remember is to use day old rice. I particularly love to use sushi rice. Most people will say that's not good, but we LOVE it and it crunches up perfectly on the skillet.
A lot of people say making fried rice is best with leftover rice straight from the fridge, or just day-old rice, but you can use fresh rice if you don't want to wait a day. I just let it cool down a bit before you cook it which is key. Following this recipe is sure to be delicious!
Ingredients you'll need:
- 6 Cup Cooked Rice - Remember day old rice!
- 5 tablespoon Avocado Oil or Rice Oil
- 1 ½ tablespoon Minced Garlic
- 1 ½ tablespoon Minced Ginger
- ⅓ cup Soy Sauce
- 1 ½ tablespoon Sesame Oil
- ¾ Cup Kimchi sliced
- 8 Quail Eggs or 3 Chicken Egg - I used quail for a fun change
- ½ Red Onion - Diced
- 12 oz Flat Iron Steak or meat/protein of choice

Detailed Instructions for Kimchi and Steak Fried Rice:

Step 1 : Gather your ingredients. Dice red onion, rough chop kimchi, mince your ginger and garlic.
Step 2 : Season your Flat Iron Steak with Kimchi Sprinkle and sear each side in wok or fry pan for 2 minutes per side. You will need ¾ tablespoon rice oil to cook the meat. Pull off the steak once it reaches internal temperature of 110° then let it rest while the remaining ingredients are cooked.
Step 3 : Sauté your onion for 5 minutes over medium heat with 1 tablespoon oil and then add in garlic and ginger and cook over medium low heat until garlic and ginger are cooked. Remove from pan.

Step 4: Break up day old rice with your hands. Add 2 tablespoon Oil to wok and cook rice until each side develops a crust. Takes 8 - 9 minutes. Once it's fried move rice to one side of the pan.
