These Taco Wonton Cups are the perfect sharable, bite-sized appetizer or snack that’s a twist on classic beef tacos. Ready to serve in under 30 minutes, they’re easy to assemble ahead of time for tailgates, parties, and potlucks.
Cook 1 lb of ground beef with Taco Seasoning. Pat beef dry to remove any excess grease.
Dice up onion and bell pepper and slice jalapeño into round pieces.
Add oil to a pan and sauté onion and bell pepper over medium heat. Once veggies are tender add in minced garlic and cook for 2 minutes and remove from heat.
Mix together cooked beef, sautéed vegetables, softened cream cheese, and 4 oz of the shredded cheddar cheese (the remaining 2 oz will go on in next step)
Using a muffin pan, press in the wonton wrappers into the pan and fill each wonton with a heaping tablespoon of the meat mixture. Top with cheese.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until cheese is melted and wontons are golden brown.
Once out of the oven, top them with sour cream and a slice of fresh jalapeño.
Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Storage: Store any leftover taco wonton cups in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven until warmed through. We recommend enjoying these taco wonton cups right after they bake so they remain crispy in texture. You can easily prep this recipe ahead by browning the beef mixture and even filling the muffin tin and keeping it covered in the refrigerator before baking.Tips:
Drain the ground beef of any excess fat. You don’t want the beef to be greasy, so just be sure to drain out any excess liquid before filling the wonton wrappers.
It’s easy to find the wrappers in the refrigerator section of the grocery store. Sometimes they can also be found in the freezer section as well.
Swap the protein. You can easily use ground chicken or turkey if you prefer to avoid beef or would like a lighter option.
Try other cheeses. I also love these taco wonton cups with pepper jack, Monterey Jack, or cheddar cheese.
Swap the taco seasoning for a homemade spice mix. Add chili powder, ground cumin, onion powder, garlic powder and oregano to the meat mixture.
Make a taco toppings bar so everyone can customize their own. This is a fun idea for any party or even dinnertime with your family! This way everyone can make their own taco cups.
Use a tortilla instead of a wonton wrapper. Just watch the cook time since they often cook faster than the wonton wrappers.
